Udupi, Jun 11: “Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi is not showing any concern on the lives of commoners. He is interested in only building his image. He is doing politics in the facilities that are given by the union government,” said former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.
Sorake spoke to the media on Friday June 11. He further said, “We have paid Rs 250 to take vaccine and Modi’s photo is there on the certificate. We are cleaning the streets and Modi takes credit by displaying his photo on Swachh Bharat Mission. Parents pay money for the education of their children and Modi takes credit by saying ‘Beti Padao, Beti Bachao’. Like this, Modi is just into politics and does not have the determination to control coronavirus pandemic in the country.
“Not a single promise made by PM Modi is realized. Nothing happened due to demonetization. Black money is not under control. All black money is converted into white.
“During the difficult time of coronavirus pandemic, the rate of all essentials is shooting up. People are ending lives due to financial stress. When Congress government was ruling, the BJP used to carry out protests every now and then. Now the price of petrol has shot up to Rs 100 and cooking gas cylinder costs Rs 850. In addition, electricity tariff is hiked. Why none of the MPs are raising their voice now?
“Why the Supreme Court has to direct the union government to give free vaccination or oxygen cylinders to the states? Can PM Modi himself not take that decision? Though package for Covid relief is declared to people of different strata of the society, till now eligible people have not received the same.
“Rs 20,000 crore package is declared for cleaning of Ganga river. Now there is shortage of vaccine and people are crying. Vaccine distribution is centralized. Modi has given assurance that by December all will get vaccinated. But where is the capacity for production? Trial of third phase of Covaxin is not yet taken place. Third wave is going to affect children. What action the union government has taken to prevent this?” he questioned.
Condemning the act or murder committed by BJP-supported president of Yadamoge panchayat Pranesh Yadiyal, Sorake said, “This act should be taken seriously and justice to be provided without any political interference. The convicts should be given severe punishment. The family of the deceased should get compensation.
“Earlier during election campaign, BJP people representatives were making false propaganda that Congress government is instigating to murder. But in the three murders that have taken place in the district BJP activists are involved. In the murders of Praveen Poojary, double murder case of Kota and the recent Yadamoge murder case BJP members are clearly involved. BJP unnecessarily accused Congress. It is ironical that BJP themselves are killing people of their own party. Why MP Shobha Karandlaje and B Y Raghavendra, who take political gain out of every minor incident in the district, did not visit Yadamoge?” he questioned.
Speaking on the pandemic, he further said, “According to the statistics declared by the union government 3.5 lac people died due to Covid. Not taking sufficient precautions before the onset of second wave is the reason for this death toll. Due to the negligence of the state government, there was no place in the crematorium to burn the mortal remains of the deceased.
“During this time of the pandemic, the matter of change of CM is being discussed by the BJP in Karnataka. Many hospitals do not have basic infrastructure. This is the need of the hour. Recruitment for many positions in the health department is not yet done. Doctors and nurses are very less in number. It is not right to discuss on change of CM at this juncture. This shows that the state BJP government has no concern on the people of Karnataka,” he said.
