Bantwal, Aug 27: The incessant rain that has lashed the taluk since the past three days withered many roads including the Mangalore–Bangalore National Highway 48. The stretch of NH 48 from Farangipet to Mani is in a deplorable condition with dangerous potholes.
The potholes along NH 48 were covered with bitumen and gravel by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI)) a few days ago, ahead of chief minister B S Yeddyurappa’s visit. However, owing to the incessant rain and heavy vehicular traffic, the patchwork on pot-holes has given way. Motorists and two-wheeler riders have a nightmarish time maneuvering on the numerous potholes along NH 48.
The meteorology department stated that the taluk recorded 65 mm of rainfall on the three days, which has put general life out of gear. Motorists and the general public have urged NHAI to undertake urgent repairs to the pot-holed highway for smoother traffic.
