Mangaluru: Couple die by suicide, financial stress suspected

Mangaluru, Jun 9: In a heart-wrenching incident, a couple allegedly ended their lives here at Pinto's Lane near Kadri in the wee hours of Wednesday June 9.

The deceased are identified as Suresh (62) and Vani (55).

Financial crisis is suspected to be the reason which led them to take the extreme step. A death note was found in which loss due to investment in chit fund was mentioned, informed police sources.

Suresh

Vani was serving as a clerk at a private college.

The body of the husband was discovered in the well while the wife was found hanging inside the house.

Kadri police reached the spot and undertook investigation.

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar also visited the spot.

Suicide is not a solution to any problem. Kindly seek the help of mental health experts if you or someone else you know is under any kind of distress.

Nothing is mentioned about their children. To the parents, always it is children are the motivating factor to live in spite of all the difficult situations and old parents look forward to meet them, when they work away from their home. Sad, the couple has to end up their life by suicide.

We have lost a gifted Musician, soft spoken and tender hearted Person in Suresh. During countless occasions he was part of the Orchestra where we presented Konkani shows. I am extremely sad to note the end of a musician..May their souls rest in peace

He was 'soft spoken and tender hearted Person in Suresh'. Looks like people cheated him from their fund. Chit fund actual name is "cheating fund" this is run by people of that kind who are looking for soft people. They are so crucked if a person is rough and tuff they will not approach for him. So sad for a tragic end. May their souls rest in peace.

Well said. It's nice to read a rational comment, the majority reek of political bias. There's more to life than just politics. Politicians will do what they do. The non-politicians are in the majority.... We can sit all day criticising or supporting a political party / people or alternatively should introspect as to what we are doing to help someone in distress. Some times just hearing out a person and giving words of assurance can help him / her get in the right direction.

Even if both were earning the salaries are not enough. Probably he had borrowed money/took loans. Look at the cost of living. Rising on a daily basis. The salaries don't increase proportionately. There are lot of people who have slipped to the poor category from the middle class, but are having no money for food/means to live. They are also ashamed of asking someone else or requesting the government to provide them. They also think what their friends or relatives will talk about them if they were to request rice/grains through PDS. Suicides will be the next norm if lockdowns continue.

Dear Ganesh. The Rosy picture is same as our PM always narrates and wins peoples support during general elections. I am not at all an economist nor a B.com. or MBA student. I do not understand much math about financial growth and per Capita income I can only watch around how ordinary working class or low income class people re facing hardships. Countries growth at one side but peoples needs should be a priority. why to bother about Corporates they have enough expertise and capital to sustain growth but poor are squeezed without any reasonable benefits. Thin in terms of poor people struggle to sustain lively hood. There is blessing in that. Country survived since independence and shall continue even if Modi would not be there. He is not an economist, rather stubborn in his attitude. Thank you. No hard feelings just expressing my concern.

Dear Flavian, Lot of changes have happened after BJP came to power. lot of economic policies are in the right direction. Lot of amendment has happened in companies Act which is very good. The new changes brought about will preempt siphoning of funds and reduce the possibility of major corporate frauds. Corporate tax has been reduced. GST collection has improved. Digital transactions have considerably increased. The disruptions caused by structural changes have eased out. The pandemic was a spoiler though.

RI.P. Financial crises have increased since BJP government came to power in 2014. There are so many reasons for the economy to go sluggish and small scale business or working class are facing financial pinch due to exorbitant GST, fuel prices and uncontrolled prices of commodities. No doubt living conditions of people has lowered and some may find difficult to meet their daily needs hand to mouth. No savings for future forget in case of any unexpected expenses due to health issues, one may have to look up !BJP gave all such miseries and still never realizes their irrational way of introducing financial burden on the low income people.
