Udupi, Jun 8: Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP and BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje presided over a Covid management meeting held at the district panchayat auditorium on Tuesday, June 8.
Speaking at the meeting she said, “Effective lockdown has decreased the Covid positivity rate in the district. We should take necessary precautions for the third wave as well."
“The lockdown in gram panchayats with more than 50 Covid cases should be continued. There are 4,085 active cases in Udupi. 487 among them are under treatment at hospitals, 149 are at Covid Care Centres and 3,449 are in home isolation. 20 black fungus cases have been detected in the district. Six among them are from Udupi and 14 cases are from outside the district. Four cases have been shifted to Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru. Two people out of them have succumbed to the infection. While six people in the district have recuperated from black fungus, eight are under treatment,” she said.
MLA Sunil Kumar suggested that the residences of Covid infected should be mandatorily sealed down. MLA Haladi Srinivas Shetty recommended that the issue of tokens for vaccinations should be made transparent.
Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesh informed that 2,75,064 people in the district have received the first dose of vaccine and 87,360 people have received the second dose. “As highest Covid cases are reported from Kothalkatte and Bharath Nagar in Kaup taluk, these areas should be identified as containment zones,” he said.
MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Lalaji R Mendon, district panchayat chief executive, Dr Navin Bhat Y, DSP N Vishnuvardhan, additional DC, Sadashiva Prabhu, district health and family welfare officer, Dr Nagabhooshan Udupa and others were present.
