Udupi, Jun 8: "Covid positivity rate has decreased drastically in the district in the last few days. However, across 16 gram panchayats the corona-positive cases are more than 50. These gram panchayats will be under complete lockdown from June 10 to June 14," announced the district deputy commissioner G Jagadeesh.
The 16 gram panchayats which will be subjected to the lockdown are Belman, Miyar, Palli, Kukkundoor, Nallur, Marne (Karkala), Shirur, Jadkal, Nada (Byndoor), Gangolli, Aloor (Kundapur), Belve, Shirva (Kaup), Kokkarne, Avarse (Brahmavar) and Varanga (Hebri).
"The district administration has been visiting the gram panchayat frequently. We are guiding the PDOs to contain the Covid at the panchayat level. Sealing down of the houses has also helped in containing the infection. 3,500 tests are being conducted on daily basis. Bed and ventilator facilities are available. We have also planned to produce oxygen at the district level. As children might be vulnerable in the third wave of Covid, we have undertaken discussions with experts regarding preparations to be done for it. The health infrastructure and necessary facilities will be upgraded to combat the third wave," he added.
