Mangaluru: Apartment complex fined Rs 53,000 for failure to segregate wet waste

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 7: City corporation officials have imposed a fine of Rs 53,000 on an apartment in the city. The fine was levied as the residents of the building failed to sort the garbage in spite of instructions from the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC).

The MCC had mandated that every apartment in the city had to properly segregate garbage into dry waste and wet waste. Wet waste has to be processed and used by the apartment while the dry waste is carried by the garbage collection vehicles. The MCC had warned that it would impose a penalty for non-compliance with this instruction.

The apartment in question at Chilimbi did not pay heed to repeated instructions as above. The dwellers in the said complex continued to hand over garbage to the vehicles without sorting the same. MCC, which took serious notice of this violation, levied a fine of Rs 500 to each of the flats in the building. The apartment has also been warned of severing water connection if it fails to pay the fine.

MCC commissioner Akshy Sridhar, visited the apartment concerned on Sunday June 6 and conducted an inspection. Sources from MCC said that action will be taken against residents who continue to overlook instructions of the city corporation.

Comments was mentioned not about Modi Bhakts or Rahul’s chelas .It was regarding wrong doings in segregation of waste ,hence apartment was penalised . It has nothing to do with tax & Gst . It’s simple to educate residents of such flats to unite to gather & solve such problems .Its shame on you people even making this as a political issue instead of educating how to solve the problem by segregating waste properly .

Yeah. When Congress tried their best to bring such measures, lazy BJP did nothing. Now they're acting like it was all their idea in the first place... And only Modi bhakts will talk in the manner Mr.Kamath did.... Segregating waste is something we have all practised for decades because that's what our grandparents did. Wet waste went into the gardens and pets... And the kabadi walas collected dry waste... When Indian economy improved, the governments never considered waste management as an issue. In Mlore, I think it was Mr. Lobo who tried to have the matter settled. The BJP has woken up now because during the nights the stench from the landfills comes till my parent's house in Bondel... It's disgusting and a serious health issue...

world wide we see plastic waste to be strictly segregated from biodegradable waste. what difference it makes if it is wet or dry as long as it is biodegradable. MCC should insist on separate plastic garbage & not dry / wet. This idea is wrong.

Wet garbage should be processed by apartments and understand it’s for large apartments with more than so many apartments and what’s that number? There’s no clarity. If anyone knows that would be helpful. Secondly, what I also don’t understand is that when individual homes have place and provision to set up small wet garbage composting why are only apartments targeted for compulsory composting? Segregation of wet and dry garbage does not need rocket science. It’s every individuals responsibility.

Heeralal, Manipal - You say that bhakts have elected Modi to stop bribery and you have been programed to give bribes. But taking bribes and giving bribes are both wrong and if bhakts themselves can't stop doing it then why do we need Modi ? Last seven years - all failures and no achievement for the public ?

I think better system is daily morning collect wet and evening dry . For this system MCC must collect little more money from citizen. Or there many youngsters are daily collecting garbage on the roads sides, those flats where they cant segregates garbage, they must appoint these boys to separate before handing over to MCC Garbage collector. Mostly those flats in big numbers. They can avoid huge fines.

When andh bhakths apartment owners are willing to pay 500rs per litre of petrol in support of modinomics what is a 500 to 1000 rs fine for not segregating waste? They should increase fine to 5000 rs per apartment.

No wonder Mangaloreans are duffers. Appreciate the penalty levied. Should have been ten folds more. Forget the fines. I went to my old friends place a couple of days back from Kaikamba enroute to Modankalp and further down to Pachinadka in B. C. Road. I was stunned ... not a single garbage bin placed on either sides of the road all through the 6 kms route. Heard that the locals regularly enter a picturesque green private rubber plantation in the Amtadi Goremar area and dump their trash there. The locals have time and again been requesting the authorities concerned to do the needful by placing plastic bins for ages together but the authorities do not heed their request. God knows why. Is MCC listening?

GST + city TAX + garbage TAX i.e TAX upon TAX no wonder we are the HIGHEST TAX PAYERS in entire WORLD..& successfully created staggering 230 million POOR in THIS YEAR ALONE. in return govt gives us NOTHING.. a notice for delayed payment perhaps.

City Cororation has instructed apartments to segregate the waste years back ,some apartments are doing & some are not .It’s not Modi who is imposing penalty .penalty is levied for wrong doings .Some brainless persons of an perticular caste always blame Modi for wrong doings .Better those people be educated regarding this segregation .Goverment is giving whatever we were getting from 1947 & what more Mr Martin is expecting

Fine imposed is very less as compare to flat costs around Rs.50 to 70 lakhs. It's duty of society to take the matter seriously as instructed by MCC. Is it not possible to keep two waste baskets in each and every flat and handedover to MCC to make work easier. In what way than Mangalore will become a Smart City in near future..a dream of Modiji.

Most of the citizens of Mangalore segregate waste, in addition if MCC installs Trommel machines at Pachanady the machine itself will segregate whatever was not done by the people.
