Udupi, Jun 6: The police have arrested six people in connection with the attempt-to-murder case of Puttur resident Shyam.
The six accused have been identified as Charan, Puneeth, Mohammad Farvez, Abhijith, Shahnawaz and Ratan.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of district police superintendent, N Vishnuvardan including ASP Kumarachandra, DySP Sudhakar Sadanand Naik, Udupi town inspector, Pramod Kumar P, town crime branch police sub-inspector, Vasappa Naik, PSI, Violet Femina, PSI, Vijay and police personnel, Jeevan, Rajesh, Manohar, Chethan, Vishwanath and Riyaz were the part of the investigation.
The incident took place on May 23 at around 8.30 pm when the victim Shyam was hanging out with his friends near a well when the six accused arrived at the scene and attacked him with lethal weapons with an intent to kill Shyam. The attack left Shyam severely injured. Following this incident, a complaint was filed at the Udupi police station.
Earlier in the week on June 4 at 3.15 am, based on definite information, the police arrested and detained four persons Charan, Puneeth, Farvez and Abhijith from Mathura Comforts near the Rajangana parking area.
The owner and manager of Mathura Comforts, Suresh Shettigar was also charged for violating Covid norms and for sheltering the accused. Meanwhile, the other two, Shah Nawaz and Rathan were arrested at Adi-Udupi. According to the police, the hunt is on to arrest the absconding accused Kishore.
A talwar and three two-wheelers were confiscated from the men.
One of the arrested men, Charan has been charged in a POCSO case and an atrocity case at the Bantwal police station along with a case under Arms Act at Suratkal police station.
While Puneet has several cases registered against him at the town police station, CEN station and one ganja case at Manipal police station.
For their swift and efficient investigation in the arrest of the six accused brought a wide appreciation for the Udupi police from the higher authorities.
