Mangalore, Aug 25: International Year of the Youth (2010-2011) was inaugurated in the diocese of Mangalore by Msgr Denis M Prabhu, the vicar general at Youth Training Centre, Olivet, Jeppu here on Sunday August 22.
Presiding over the function Msgr Prabhu invited the youth to be the active members of the church and society. He also distributed the certificates to the youth delegates who participated in the seventh Regional Youth Convention, Bellary.
Chief guest Fr Vincent Monteiro, the director of the Diocesan Pastoral Centre announced the names of the members of the Youth Commission for the next three years. Declaring open the Youth Year programmes of ICYM Central Council he called upon the youth to become the Youths of the Year.
Dr Savitha Pereira, professor, SDM College of Management was the guest of honour.
During her speech she highlighted the situation and the realities of the present youth and called upon them to take a proper direction in their lives and have a good mission so that they become strong pillars of the family, church, society and the nation.
The Youth director Fr Anil D’Souza delivered the introductory address and briefed on the International Youth Year.
Vincent Rodrigues, ICYM president welcomed the guests and Anisha, ICYM (women) vice-president proposed the vote of thanks. Gilphin Pinto was the master of the ceremony.
Diocesan lady animator Sr Michelle B S, YCS director Fr Ronald D’Souza, ICYM president Vincent Rodrigues, YCS president Tiny Canute D’Souza, AICUF secretary Serina D’Souza and the co-coordinator of Jesus youth Arral Vijay Moras were present on the dias.
Youth directors of the deanery, religious sisters and representatives of various institutions were present on the occasion.
