Mangaluru/Udupi, June 2: Dakshina Kannada on Wednesday, June 2 reported 618 new coronavirus cases and five deaths, while Udupi reported 636 fresh cases and two deaths.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 8,56,519 samples have been tested so far, out of which 7,79,166 have turned out to be negative.
The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 77,353, out of which 8,251 are currently active.
As many as 854 patients were discharged from hospitals on Tuesday.
The district recorded five deaths due to coronavirus on Wednesday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 923.
With cases steadily increasing, the district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.
So far, the district administration has collected Rs 71,28,617 as fine in 60,458 incidents of mask violation.
Udupi
As per the district health bulletin, as many as 5,98,903 samples have been tested so far.
As many as 636 new cases were reported on Wednesday, taking the total number of cases to 60,098 out of which 4,876 are currently active.
A total of 963 patients were discharged from hospitals on Wednesday.
Coronavirus has claimed 338 lives in the district so far, including two on Wednesday.
Till now, 2,51,432 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 81,183 have received the second dose.
