Mangaluru, May 25: In order to facilitate easier identification and restraining vehicles from moving around the city without any genuine reasons, the police have barred movement of vehicles on one side of the main roads.
These restrictions have been brought into effect between Lalbagh and Ballalbagh, PVS, Bunts Hostel, Jyothi and Bunts Hostel where vehicles moving on both the ways have to use only one side of the roads. Vehicles have to move on the right lane of the road from Lalbagh. People driving from Balmatta side too have to move on one side of the road.
Barricades have been set up at a few spots on the roads while in a few places, vehicles are allowed to enter the barricaded side of the road when taking a U-turn. This can give rise to confusion among the vehicle drivers as they suddenly confront vehicles coming from the opposite direction. In some roads, when the vehicles move ahead thinking that the road is clear, the barricades stop them. In such cases they have to return and join the road from the other side, which can pose dangers.
Therefore the people have demanded for exhibiting proper boards giving clear instructions to avoid confusions.
Assistant commissioner of police (traffic), MA Nataraj, said that this arrangement has been made in order to be able to exercise control over the unnecessary movement of vehicles and to stop drivers from negligent driving. He said that the department is thinking of extending this system to other roads in the city too.
