Mangalore, Aug 19: The burglar alarm system that went off as soon as four thieves broke into a shop dealing in mobile phones here, helped in arresting four thieves. City police commissioner, Seemant Kumar Singh, felicitated Gurudath Kamath, Rahul Kamath and Satish, who helped the policemen in catching hold of these thieves in spite of having been assaulted. The trio was honoured on Wednesday August 18 at the office of the commissioner here.
When a gang of thieves tried to enter ‘Planet G’, a shop dealing in mobile phones, located on Alake Road early morning on September 12, Gurudath Kamath, who was sleeping at his home, got alarm warning through his mobile phone. He rushed to the shop with son, Rahul Kamath, and a neighbourer named Satish. The three thieves together tried to assault them, but they succeeded in chasing away the thieves, even though Gurudath suffered injuries to his head, caused by a spanner held by one of the thieves.
On the basis of the details given by the three about the appearance of the thieves, Bunder police station inspector, Vinnay Gaonkar, entrusted the work of nabbing them to a team. The team arrested Rajan Kumar (26), Beeru Kumar (26) Lalu Babu Prasad (33) and Lalu Mohammed (28) hailing from Godasahan village in Champaran district, Bihar. They are part of a seven-member gang from Bihar, involved with stealing mobile phones. The other three have succeeded in evading arrest. The policemen have recovered a few items and Rs 10,000 in cash from the arrested persons, it is learnt.
