Mangaluru/Udupi, May 16: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday May 16 reported as many as 957 new coronavirus cases and seven deaths, while Udupi too reported a spike with 745 fresh cases and five deaths.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 8,05,019 samples have been tested so far, out of which 7,40,705 have turned out to be negative.
The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 64,314, out of which 12,506 are currently active.
As many as 1,638 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 50,993.
The district recorded seven deaths due to coronavirus on Sunday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 815, out of which four are non-Covid deaths.
With cases steadily increasing, the district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.
So far, the district administration has collected a whopping Rs 57,10,930 as fine in 54,686 incidents of mask violation.
Udupi
As per the district health bulletin, as many as 5,47,807 samples have been tested so far.
As many as 745 new cases were reported on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 46,739, out of which 6,805 are currently active.
A total of 1,197 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 39,668.
Out of 745 new patients, 720 are in home isolation while 25 are in Covid-designated hospitals.
Among the 745, as many as 647 are asymptomatic.
While Udupi taluk reported 316 of the 745 cases, Kundapur recorded 307, Karkala 113, and nine from outside the district.
Coronavirus has claimed 266 lives in the district so far, including five on Sunday. Among those who died on Sunday are three men and a woman from Kundapur, and a woman from Udupi.
Till now, 1,97,136 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 67,779 have received the second dose.
