Mangaluru, May 15: The second wave of coronavirus is causing enormous issues in the state as well as the district of Dakshina Kannada (DK). As the number of Covid infected patients is rising, the areas that are converted into containment zones is also on the rise.
In the past four days, the number of containment zones in the district has shot up to 132 from a mere 50. On Friday, May 14, 15 more areas were declared as containment zones.
There are 56 containment zones in Mangaluru, while Beltangady, Sullia and Puttur have 21, 10 and seven respectively.
26 new cases of Covid positive were reported from Kallagudda in Beltangady taluk. Dr Ashok, nodal officer of Dakshina Kannada said that the number of Covid cases is rising in the district since mid-April.
The district health department has given instructions to city corporations and gram panchayats to tend to the essential services of people living in containment zones.
Directions are also given to Asha and MPW workers to keep track of and monitor positive cases daily and also the primary and secondary contacts of the infected people.
