NTAGI recommends increasing Covishield second dose gap by 3 to 4 months

Bengaluru, May 13: Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan has in a tweet claimed that the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) has recommended increasing the gap between 2 doses of Covishield vaccine to 12 to 16 weeks or 3 to 4 months.

“Extending the gap assists Government in carrying out the inoculation programme effectively,’’ said Dr Narayan, who also heads Karnataka’s Covid Task Force.

He, however, has not said anything about the other vaccine, Covaxin.

So far, all technical experts had recommended that that the gap between two doses of the Covid vaccine should ideally be between 6 to 8 weeks or one and half to two months.

With India facing a shortage of vaccine all over the country and several State Governments unable to carry out the vaccination drive against the Covid 19 pandemic despite having opened it for all people above 18 years, increasing the gap between two doses suits the government ideally.

Evidence is very clear from clinical study published in Lancet.. A gap of 100 to 120 days is ideal to get superior and in my opinion long term protection https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(21)00432-3/fulltext

While vaccination debates can go on .. availability..efficacy ..hesitancy etc .. As no vaccine can suggest 100 % safety which is part of the development process Now The narrative has suddenly changed ..to vaccine .. BUT WHAT WAS MOST IMPORTANT WAS SOCIAL DISTANCING.. marks .. not having crowded places .. following COVID protocol We lost because although. Second wave was expected .. history also had shown .. THERE WAS SOUNDING OF VICTORY BUGLE .. world pharmacy and all bombastic claims THE SCIENCE OF. THE VIRUS WAS MISSED SADLY ALONG WITH SUPPORT FOR QUACKS

I am a doctor in UK. Here all vaccines were/are given with 3 months gap between 2 doses. This decision was taken without any date to suggest this is correct just because there was no enough doses. Now there is a scientific study conducted by US which proves delaying second dose to 3 or 4 months is the correct approach. This has been published in UK Newspaper guardian-please see link https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/may/12/delaying-second-covid-vaccine-doses-can-save-lives-study-finds Also Indian Govt cannot ask other companies to produce the vaccines because SII is producing vaccine under licence from Astrazeneca. Indian Govt cannot unilaterally waive the patent. India and South Africa have asked for patent Waiver. USA has agreed but unfortunately EU is not agreeing. The vaccine shortage is global. Nothing Indian Govt can do to overnight get more doses. Unfortunately initially there was severe vaccine hesitancy in India and lot of vaccines were wasted. In that scenario if Govt had invested lot of money to procure vaccines people would have cried foul. Now in hindsight everyone is saying should have procured more. Initially if Indian people had warmly agreed to take vaccine this situation would not have come.

First of all without finding root cause of this Covid virus, to get solution for it, is far from being reached. Chinese didnt allow investingation for months, left leaning WHO, other liberal nations, support Chinese story, so trusting in these WHO vaccines is a murkier business, these vaccines only add more numbers is the question? Many doctors have been gagged to speak against these vaccines by western communist media / Big tech inspite of that following video in referenced link 5 Western Doctors including 4 women doctors openly warn Big Pharma vaccine itself are Bio weapons and why? The initial advice has been to take the second dose 18 days after the first dose. As the Mismangement of the Vaccines became increasingly clear, this gap between doses became wider and wider. This is not the way to casuallly treat the vaccination issue with disregard to human safety and protection from the Virus.

As per the news reports, it is said that the two companies producing vaccines can deliver a maximum of 6 Crores per month; both companies put together..... In such a case, it will take minimum 2 years to inoculate all Indians..... By the time, how many waves of Covid will come, no one knows..... Still why Centre is not allowing sharing of the vaccine technology with other Indian companies, unable to comprehend.

This is third time indian govt increased gap in between two doses of covid shield. This is harmful decison on political level. First dose power will slowly slowly week ,,& people may be died due to this pandemic This may be due to govt unable to do mass production of doses.

Janatha, so you're telling that 1. Every project that this present COW government doing is actually a copy from the UPA. 2. All these cheddis were out of job before 2014, and that is the reason they all became PHIRKI, but there must be some effect of cow urine and cow dung.

The company producing vaccines must have done their trials and must have set a time period for the first and second doses.....!!!!!!! Just because the Government has a problem of providing the vaccination, increasing the time period is stupidity.

Current government has betrayed its citizens over poor planning, over wrong policies. For eg O2 export increased by 700% during 2020/2021. Vaccines exported and now to cover up mistakes they are playing with citizens.... time to wake up ....citizens wake up..,, ask for accountability... not sure when will our people wake up..

Is the vaccine really designed and manufactured with so much of flexibility or is it a face saving tactic by the government? The nation wants to know.

The second dose in Covishied and Covaxin can be delayed up to 4-6 months, I have earlier written where to get this scientific/medical information. Those who have not yet taken the second dose need not be anxious, or worried. Both the manufactures are increasing their capacity and vaccines that can be used as nasal spray will be also be available in a few months.
