Bengaluru, May 13: Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan has in a tweet claimed that the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) has recommended increasing the gap between 2 doses of Covishield vaccine to 12 to 16 weeks or 3 to 4 months.
“Extending the gap assists Government in carrying out the inoculation programme effectively,’’ said Dr Narayan, who also heads Karnataka’s Covid Task Force.
He, however, has not said anything about the other vaccine, Covaxin.
So far, all technical experts had recommended that that the gap between two doses of the Covid vaccine should ideally be between 6 to 8 weeks or one and half to two months.
With India facing a shortage of vaccine all over the country and several State Governments unable to carry out the vaccination drive against the Covid 19 pandemic despite having opened it for all people above 18 years, increasing the gap between two doses suits the government ideally.
