Mangalore, Aug 12: The Federation of Karnataka Auto Rickshaw Drivers Union (FKARDU) with the support of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) staged a dharna in front the deputy commissioner’s office here on Thursday August 12.
The auto rickshaw drivers urged the government to revise the minimum auto fare to Rs 16 with further fare at Rs 11 per km. They also demanded that the waiting charge and luggage charge should be raised to 15%.
L T Suvarna, general secretary of Federation of Karnataka Autorickshaw Drivers Union General Secretary L T Suvarna said that the auto rickshaw drivers have been finding it hard to make both ends meet, because of increasing prices of gas and rising cost of living caused by steep hike in the prices of cooking gas and other essential commodities.
Sunil Kumar Bajal, president, FKARDU, CITU leaders Munir Katipalla and Vasanth Achary among others were present during the protest.
