FMMC's study suggests Covid precaution causing dermatitis to 2/3rd population

Mangaluru, May 7 (IANS): More than two-thirds of people may now have hand dermatitis due to stringent hand washing and using alcohol-based rubs during the Covid-19 pandemic, indicating the emergence of a skin-disease epidemic, according to a study led by Indian researchers.

Researchers at Father Muller Medical College (FMMC) in Mangaluru, Karnataka, analysed transepidermal water loss (TEWL) -- an essential parameter for measuring skin barrier function -- from 582 people, including 291 healthcare professionals (HCPs) and 291 healthy individuals from the general population.

The results indicated that hand dermatitis was now present among 92.6 per cent of HCPs and 68.7 per cent of the general population. Only 3 per cent of HCPs and 2.4 per cent of the general public in the study had reported a prior history of hand dermatitis.

Increased dryer skin was also noted in females and intensive care professionals, which was associated with high frequency of hand washing and use of alcohol-based hand rubs.

"This research truly demonstrates the impact of increased hand washing and uptake of alcohol-based rubs on the hand skin health of HCPs and the general public. Moreover, we now know that using TEWL to measure skin barrier function can help us compare the efficacy of various barrier protective measures, and discover suitable modifications of hand hygiene practices and products to help prevent hand eczema," explained Monisha Madhumita from the varsity.

The participants also stated that skin irritation and dryness was the main barrier to the consistent practice of hand hygiene.

"This research shows there is now a skin-disease epidemic within the Covid-19 pandemic. It is promising to see this problem being recognised, and I am excited to see how the dermatology community goes about finding potential solutions to this issue," Marie-Aleth Richard, EADV Board Member and Professor at the University Hospital of La Timone, Marseille, adds.

Finding suitable modifications to practices and products that may increase the accessibility of proper hand hygiene is something of vital importance to many in our community, the researchers said.

The findings were presented at the two-day EADV's 2021 Spring Symposium held online from May 6-7.

Ha..ha thank you Monty Doc for your compliments. Yeah I was provaxer until a decade back, even for my son I had vaccinated with chicken pox vaccine, but I found he has strange skin infections lesions which needed a course of antibiotics which at that time I didn't think the side effect of the vac. But after research & collecting tons of videos of experts in that field now I have changed into Informed Vaxer who will say yes to any vaccines manufactured the traditional way without additives or adjuants like mercury, aborted fetal cells, aluminium, formaldehyde, neomycin, bee poison, glyphosate, which the researchers found were causing cancer & autoimmune diseases immediately or after a few years. On ethical angle too I don't want to have serum extracted from bovines as they are cut open live & their calf gets cut near heart & serum gets collected from there. In the past century vaccines were contaminated with dog, pig, monkey & rat cells & their viruses too as the technology was primitive. If we go through history of US vax industries we can see they were criminal in their intent & used their political & money power to circumvent FDA regulations to market their toxic unproven vaccines which weren't performed with a real placebo with double blind study. They cheated with self prepared studies which hid the cons while highlighting pros which were full of lies. Up to now more than 4 billion dollars are paid in compensation by US govt., as they have got immunity from litigations & liability after Ronald Reagan introduced a law in 1986 which is still valid. A drug takes more than 10 to 20 years to see the market due to stringent regulations, but through vaccine label & present emergency use provision they can get them in market without long term study. I've seen the vaccine injured people with autism, bedridden people who were healthy before they got their jabs, it is heart rending to see their suffering for this reason I want every one to be An Informed Vaxer.

@Rita- earlier I was believing experts opinion like you. But it was not win-win situation. So we need to think other dimensions as well. Ear, eyes, nose, mouth, and skins are vulnerable to virus attacks. So that may be the reason doctors wear PPE kits to save themselves. Other people are allowed to expose to virus without telling all the truth about virus capabilities.

@sri_elder. I agree with you that the glasses- the type bike riders wear which are enclosed on all sides along with a mask may not give full protection, but reduce the viral load. One should avoid crowds, hospitals ( as far as possible)and closed spaces, airconditioned offices which are visited by many people ( unless it is laminar flow type, where the same air is not recirculated.) As always I am against lockdowns and sanitizers ( like Rudolph, Dev and others) but pro vaccines, and against China like John( conspiracy theory of Chinese).

@Monty Dotor- well said . Thank you.! I think it is time to manufacture completely enclosed eye glasses without allowing any air exposure to eyes. That should work perfect. It should protect people in crowded buses as well.

@Rita Germany. Jan Helms of Mainz Germany ( ENT surgeon) and his wife visited our home at Ahmedabad, Gujarat ,India where I was staying earlier, when they had come for a ENT surgeons Conference,I remember they enjoyed Rasam ( which they called soup), Masala Dosa and Khaman (a Gujarati dish) which my wife had prepared.I have been to Frankfurt many years ago. I was using a Karl Zeiss operating microscope for microear and microlaryngeal surgery and Storz instruments ( made in Germany). World is small.

@sri_elder and Rita .I would agree with sri_elder and for more than1year and 5 months ( I am sure sri_ elder remembers me , Dev , Rudolph etc.) I am writing that Covid is transmitted through air (very, very rarely by touch) and mask does not prevent infection as the virus can enter through the eyes, nasolacrimal duct, nasopharynx, bronchi into the lungs which is the main target organ. Also whatever mask we use air that we breathe does not all pass through the mask but most of it passes between the mask and skin of the face as it is impossible to achieve an air tight seal between the two. As proof, many celebrities who promoted mask wearing, many world leaders and doctors who used best quality masks and wore them properly had developed Covid, and some even died of Covid.

@Monty Dotor- yes I remember you.. I think goggles can protect people from virus along with mask. Somebody should do research on that, and can protect people from crisis. I am not promoting any items but only generic use. Thank you all!

According to triple M.D. scientist we are made of 53%genes of bacteria, viruses, parasites etc. The fake Germ Theory itself is misleading modern medical science. According to him we need to get in and out all of them to fine tune our immune system and not runaway from them. Again no masks which have been tested passed the test to prevent viral infections. Some have some chemicals coated which are known carcinogenic. God has given us the best filters and immune system which doesn't need any barriers which haven't passed the safety tests. Only our soldiers wear during chemical and biological attacks is capable of preventing viruses but nobody can afford them or can use them daily.

Simply washing hands with soap & water is the best! Some interested cartel made a big hue and cry about hand washes so most people are now suffering from OCD of repeatedly using generous amount of this liquid! The alcohol (70%) & Triclosan etc dehydrate the skin & also get absorbed into the body which have serious effects! Many people unconsciously eat food directly after using hand sanitizer! Also there are reports of people getting severe burns when they unwittingly used it near open 🔥! Many people have died after consuming it as a substitute for potable alcohol! Many cos minted money by selling this liquid! Now these cos are selling it in jumbo bottles as there's good demand because of fear instilled in their minds!

Covid19 is a airborne disease most likely viruses are in the atomic form. So washing hands of no much use. Earlier guidelines were baseless and unscientific and truly commercial suggestions. Masks only protects 50%. Other 50% risks from wide open eyes which are exposed to open air atmosphere. So sun glasses may protect to some extent. Someone please analyze why so many masked people too get covid 19? Thats the reason. There is another viral eye infection called madas eye or red eye. Just airborne disease.

Yes the virus is airborne and according to CDC virus hardly spreading due to touch or distance isn't giving protection. Masks never protects against them as the smallest opening in N95 masks is 300 microns while viruses are less than 100microns. Secondly masks reduce oxygen levels and increasing carbon dioxide intake thereby lowering immunity which makes them easy victims. Hypercapnia caused by masks too have same symptoms but tests reveal they have no infection, then fear takes over which causes unnecessary treatments and deaths. A study too had found mask wearers are 16and half percent more likely to get covid.

sri-elder karkala ,you say hand washing is of no usepeople who use masks too get corona .I dont support this view.First of all who washes hand often also is clear skin gets dry, later he must use some creme or oily substance to sooth the skin.Everything depends upon how you use it and not what you use. When we use masks too get infection is also not true. What type of mask you use also considered.Simple mask of clothes doesnt prevent virus entering your lungs or nose.many use masks half above mouth sometimes pull down with ahnd again push above isnt good.cloth mask is not good we use of surgical mask during operation for hours by medicaal persons which never caused any infection .so here too same .There is a mask with formular FFP2used by us during corona. That helps.hand washing is necessary because we use hands to touch other material we dont know who touched it ,so infection may spread through hands when we touch with same hands our nose ,mouth.best is use normal soap to wash ahnds not detergents,Dont make extra hyper washing.normal is enough.

People are hit hard either by obsessive hygiene mania or economical shutdowns by our politicians who are hardly hit or bothered about common people unless they themselves get infected. I'm pleased to inform I know a doctor on social media who has treated thousands of covid positive people sine last year who never used masks, sanitizers or social distance with the infected & still doing Yeomen service to the suffering people who come to him as last resort as beds in Bangalore aren't available to them. He has success rate of 99% with his protocol which doesn't approve unnecessary oxygen despite oxygen saturation below 60 if patients show no symptoms. What he says is patients need family near them, they need compassion & bring smile onto their faces by encouraging them by just touching them & saying you are doing fine. He requested marriage choultries to give him space to treat patients with beds but nobody is ready to lend him a hand. Schools are shut & that space can be given to him. He has now started a Trust & with any money he receives he uses to treat the poor. He is on social media & he is helping many people get well in their homes itself, search for Dr Raju's Healthy India & help him serve more people thereby we can stop hospitals fleecing people & end this menace which never was or is a pandemic.

Obsessive behavior due to fear is the cause of this problem. After coming home, before having food etc. hand washing with soap and water is normal behavior and soap contains fat-like substances known as amphiphiles, some structurally similar to the lipids in the virus membrane. The soap molecules “compete” with the lipids in the virus membrane. That is more or less how soap also removes normal dirt of the skin. Most viruses consist of three key building blocks: RNA, proteins and lipids. The soap molecules also compete with a lot other non-covalent bonds that help the proteins, RNA and the lipids to stick together. The soap is effectively “dissolving” the glue that holds the virus together.Sanitizers are not required. More important is that Corona spreads through air and very rarely through touch.
