Kundapur, Aug 10: The students of Richard Almeida Memorial College in Navunda, Byndoor, boycotted classes on Monday August 9, to press for their various demands. In response, the principal of the college and nine lecturers, resigned en masse from their posts.
On Thursday August 5, the students had presented a memorandum containing various demands, to the college principal. The memorandum pointed out poor quality of teaching, appointment of teaching staff having improper qualification, shortage of books in the library, lack of playground and sports equipments, insufficient space and lack of well-equipped college complex etc and demanded for corrective action.
The students alleged that the college management and its principal had not taken their demands seriously. In protest, they boycotted the classes on Monday. In response, the principal and all the lecturers put in their papers together. The college has stopped functioning and the stalemate continues. The people hope that the college management and local leaders will take steps to break the impasse in the interests of the future of the agitating students.
