Udupi, May 4: The police have registered a case against a private bus which was planning to ferry passengers to Mumbai. The bus was parked near the Clock Tower in the city on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 4 on the pretext of transporting Covid patients to the hospital.
At around 2 pm on Tuesday, the municipal commissioner was on his rounds to ensure that Covid precautions were being observed when he found a bus bearing the number plate KA-51 AD 5835 travelling with 13 passengers. The bus driver Abdul Basheer was ferrying passengers from one place to another and therefore coming in direct violation of laws under the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act.
The passengers were being transported without permission and without adhering to the Covid protocol. The bus driver Abdul Basheer has been arrested while the passengers have been sent to their respective homes.
Municipal council commissioner, Uday Kumar has lodged a complaint at the city police station in this connection. A case under registration number 77/2021 under IPC section 269 and 51(1)(4) of the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act has been registered in the police station in this regard.
