Bengaluru, May 3: The State Government has instituted an inquiry into the deaths of the Covid patients in Chamarajanagar district hospital allegedly due to non-availability of oxygen.

Senior IAS officer and Managing Director of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Shivayogi Kalasad has been asked to conduct the inquiry and ascertain the cause of deaths and submit the inquiry report within 3 days.

Shivayogi Kalasad

Meanwhile, Home and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Basavaraj Bommai has already asked the State’s DGP to conduct a probe into the Chamarajanagar district hospital deaths.

The Government Order appointing Shivayogi Kalsad to probe the Chamarajanagar district, however, mentions 23 deaths even as former Congress President Rahul Gandhi had tweeted offering condolences to families of the 24 persons who died due to non-availability of oxygen in the hospital and had sarcastically asked 'Died or Killed?' and wondered how many more people have to die before the State Government wakes up.

According to informed sources, the Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru District Rohini Sinduri had reportedly not released the oxygen cylinders sent to Chamarajanagar district on the ground that they were need for treatment of Covid patients in Mysuru district.

Bommai orders DGP to conduct probe into 24 deaths in Chamarajanagar hospital

Bengaluru, May 3: After former Congress president tweeted about the deaths of 24 persons in Chamarajanagar district hospital due to non-availability of oxygen, Karnataka’s Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said he has asked the State’s Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) to conduct a comprehensive probe and submit a report.

Speaking to reporters after the chemicals spraying function organized by the Fire Brigade and Emergency Services in Bengaluru on Monday, the Home Minister said the State Government is aware of the deaths of the patients in Chamarajanagar district hospital due to non-availability of oxygen.

Gandhi, has offered his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, had asked: “Died or Killed? My heartfelt condolences to their families. How much more suffering before the system wakes up?’’

Bommai, who is also the State’s Law and Parliamentary Affairs minister, said the government has asked the DGP to probe the real cause of the deaths and submit the report after personally visiting and investigating the incident. "We will take appropriate action after receiving the probe report,’’ he said.

“This is most unfortunate and such an incident should not have happened,’’ he said pointing out that the demand for oxygen is increasing in the State and the State Government is doing its best to supply oxygen to the hospitals within its limits.

“We are trying our best to handle the situation as far as possible,’’ Bommai said.

Nobody dies for lack of oxygen overnight - IN GENERAL -- What is meant is ---patients have deteriorated over many days and then come to this stage - rarely within hours somebody reaches low oxygen saturation - like a heart attack - ------- So there must have been desperate calls for Oxygen over many days and utter negligence and heads have to roll in Health Dept or whosoever involved - ------ NOT DISCUSS /ENQUIRY etc etc and waste time -ACTION NEEDED ON WAR FOOTING - ---- TAX PAYER PAYS ALL TAXES AND THIS IS THE SITUATION - either income tax or whichever commodity one buys - SOAP etc etc Directly or indirectly citizen is paying taxes -

@RSRB, why are you blaming public..... Why you are not blaming administration.... Did public asked to conduct election rallies???? Did public asked to conduct elections during this Pandemic???? Don't teach descipline to public.... Because of unscientific lock down and confusing statements of leaders and officers public is panicked and confused.... Who created this confusion???? First they said to take the vaccine... Now they are saying do not take the vaccine if not necessary.... Lack of planning???? Do not blindly support...... On your comment I can understand that you do not know the pain of common man or public....

How come, corona cases are not there in Singapore? Its because of the ಶಿಸ್ತುಭಧ್ಧ ಸರಕಾರ. Not behind bribery ...please come here and settle down. Everything you will be learnt day by day.

Why probe after patients death. Importantly, take actions on all those who ere actively campaigned for state election (including PM, Home minister and other political leaders who day in day out attended the rallies and encouraged people to participate in the rallies without take or following any covid protocol thereby spreading the virus beyond control. Virus doesnt move but infected peoples movements increases the risk of spreading to great extent. PM must bear the responsibility . Old man sometimes acts funny. clear signs of old age and the arrogance he is entertaining.

NO CM or minister will visit chamrajanagara. If they go there they will lose their ministership. That is the trend at this place. So only instruction will be to DCP or the DC to handle the situation.
