Meanwhile, Home and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Basavaraj Bommai has already asked the State’s DGP to conduct a probe into the Chamarajanagar district hospital deaths.
The Government Order appointing Shivayogi Kalsad to probe the Chamarajanagar district, however, mentions 23 deaths even as former Congress President Rahul Gandhi had tweeted offering condolences to families of the 24 persons who died due to non-availability of oxygen in the hospital and had sarcastically asked 'Died or Killed?' and wondered how many more people have to die before the State Government wakes up.
According to informed sources, the Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru District Rohini Sinduri had reportedly not released the oxygen cylinders sent to Chamarajanagar district on the ground that they were need for treatment of Covid patients in Mysuru district.

Bengaluru, May 3: After former Congress president tweeted about the deaths of 24 persons in Chamarajanagar district hospital due to non-availability of oxygen, Karnataka’s Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said he has asked the State’s Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) to conduct a comprehensive probe and submit a report.
Speaking to reporters after the chemicals spraying function organized by the Fire Brigade and Emergency Services in Bengaluru on Monday, the Home Minister said the State Government is aware of the deaths of the patients in Chamarajanagar district hospital due to non-availability of oxygen.
Gandhi, has offered his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, had asked: “Died or Killed? My heartfelt condolences to their families. How much more suffering before the system wakes up?’’
Bommai, who is also the State’s Law and Parliamentary Affairs minister, said the government has asked the DGP to probe the real cause of the deaths and submit the report after personally visiting and investigating the incident. "We will take appropriate action after receiving the probe report,’’ he said.
“This is most unfortunate and such an incident should not have happened,’’ he said pointing out that the demand for oxygen is increasing in the State and the State Government is doing its best to supply oxygen to the hospitals within its limits.
“We are trying our best to handle the situation as far as possible,’’ Bommai said.
