Mangaluru, May 3: The taxi drivers from the city, who are facing multifarious problems on account of coronavirus-induced lockdown-like curfew, are now facing many complications. Because of these things, eking out a living has become difficult for them.
Taxies and maxi cabs from Karnataka which had undertaken the tour of Kerala were facing the problem of payment of pending taxes there. That problem has come back to haunt them. At the same time, the parking fee at the international airport here has been hiked, delivering a big blow to the taxi drivers. These drivers have not been getting an opportunity to play their vehicles because of the lockdown.

The problem of pending tax payment problem which faced the taxies and maxi cabs from Karnataka which went on a tour to Kerala a few years ago, has not been solved totally. Because of the fact that the Kerala government has put them on the black list for non-payment, these taxis also appear in the black list of Karnataka government. The taxi owners are neither able to run the vehicles on hire basis nor can they sell them.
Because of the tight rule of the transport department, they cannot go to Kerala neither can they operate in Karnataka for hire. These things have compounded their problems.
