Bengaluru, Apr 22: A high-level meeting on Covid management in the city held under the chairmanship of chief minister B S Yediyurappa held on Thursday evening after his discharge from hospital has decided to strengthen the helplines to help the people and enlist the help of volunteers to supplement the work of government staff wherever possible and feasible.
The meeting held in the lawns of the chief minister’s official residence, Cauvery, in which health and family welfare minister Dr K Sudhakar, who is also handling the medical education portfolio, revenue minister R Ashok, primary and secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar, housing minister V Somanna as well as ministers MTB Nagaraj, S T Somashekar, K Gopalaiah, Bengaluru Development Authority chairman S R Vishwanath, chief secretary P Ravikumar, health department additional chief secretary, Jawaid Akhtar, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) chief commissioner, Gaurav Gupta and other senior officials participated.
Dr K Sudhakar briefed the meeting that the bottlenecks in the supply of oxygen cylinders and shortages of medicines have been sorted out. There is also no problems in the availability of vaccines, he clarified.
The meeting decided to strengthen the fever clinics in the city and provide suitable guidelines regarding testing and treatment for fever, cough, cold etc. so that only the persons who require hospitalization could be admitted.
The chief minister directed that alternative arrangements for keeping the dead bodies in the crematoria must be made to avoid the corpses being kept in the ambulances, which would be in the queue outside the crematoria so that the ambulances would be freed for transporting dead bodies.
The chief minister also directed that the persons under home isolation must be monitored and teleconsultations should be provided.
It also decided that it was necessary to ensure that the beds being provided by the private hospitals must be ascertained and the availability of beds and vacant beds must be intimated by the deputy commissioners of police and BBMP joint commissioners of the respective zones. The designated nodal officers for each BBMP zones must be held fully accountable for the Covid management in the respective zones, who should also respond to the problems of the zones concerned.
