Bengaluru, Apr 21: The government had issued notification on February 15 bringing into force the provisions of the disputed The Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act all over the state. During the last 60 days thereafter, 58 first information reports about either killing the cattle for beef and illegal transportation have been filed in the state.
As per sources in the government, over 200 cattle which were illegally being taken for slaughtering have been saved.

Under the said act, officials have been given the power to detect and arrest the concerned to stop slaughter of cows for beef and illegal slaughter. If cattle are being transported without the certificates from concerned officials or certificates from veterinary officers, the officers have the power to conduct raids and take cattle into custody. Punishments and fines vary with fine amount from Rs 50,000 to several lac rupees, and imprisonment up to seven years.
