Kalaburagi, Apr 19: In a heart-wrenching incident that occurred on Sunday April 18, a woman roamed in an auto rickshaw for six hours with an oxygen cylinder as she could not get a bed in ICU of hospitals.
A 55-year-old lady, resident of Basavanagar of the city fell sick on the morning of Sunday due to breathing difficulty and cough. Her family members took her to a private hospital. However, the private hospital authorities said that they do not have any ICU bed vacant and put her on an oxygen cylinder for artificial ventilation.
Later, the woman went to Vatsalya, Chirayu, Dhanwanthari, Crystal and ESI hospitals in the auto rickshaw with the oxygen cylinder in search of bed. As no beds were available, the family members of the woman brought her back to GIMS (Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences). Unfortunately, there was no bed available in GIMS also. The woman had to manage herself in the auto rickshaw with an oxygen cylinder for three hours in the simmering heat.
The sight of the woman in auto rickshaw suffering to breath was heart wrenching. At last, around afternoon, GIMS hospital authorities made arrangement of a bed in the ICU and got the woman admitted.
