Kundapur: Shops in plenty, but no parking space for customers

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Apr 16: Most of the problems stem out of either lack of foresight or absence of vision. For example, this town has a large number of shops and stalls but customers or other visitors to these establishments have no space to park their vehicles. This in itself has blown into a huge problem.

Within the limits of this municipality, a large number of shops, stalls and government offices are located. But in most of these buildings, there is no space to park the vehicles. The municipality issues licences to run shops and commercial establishments but it does not ensure whether they have enough parking space. If someone parks their vehicles, they have to pay fine.

The problem would have not become so grave, if the authorities had confirmed about the availability of parking space when issuing licences. Only some recently constructed commercial buildings have provided parking space.

Some shops display the board announcing that the parking space is reserved for their own customers. But in most cases, the space they show does not belong to them. It is roadside and hence belongs to the municipality. Only the boards belong to the shops. Those who question the rule get threatened. Neither the municipality nor the police have given any attention to this grave issue.

The traffic police impose fine on anyone who parks his or her vehicle by the roadside. They lock the wheels. Buy there is no clarification on how can the fine be imposed without issuing proper notification about no parking system. The people also question the propriety of the concerned in barring parking of vehicles without making suitable alternative parking arrangements. The local administration is actually bound to provide parking space for those who visit business establishments, as the owner plays tax to the municipality.

In Mangalore too the situation is no better! It’s the same story everywhere. Even where the parking is available, it’s extremely unscientific, one foot higher than the road level. The city planners have absolutely no common sense. Do they expect everyone to have a huge four wheel drive vehicle to climb over to such heights???

In India lack of business or marketing knowledge make such problems.Whereas the licence should be given to people who have parking place for their customers according to their market big or small have to atleast two only for customers.otherwise no licence. Why does the Kundapur build a parking area ,garage fecility to everyone.Park and pay ,do your business and go when you want.community and customers profit from it No headache ,or fine. One has to only management knowledge.Mangalore is a worst place for shopping and parking mismanagement. All these buses, rickshas ,bikes ,no place for others to walk.

If road side contains no parking sign boards of RTO or sarige ilake then they can impose fine for vehicles. That is general understanding. No special notifications required. RTO and police work together to place these road side sign boards and media should watch them for changes...
