Mangaluru, Apr 12: Catechism Day was observed at Holy Cross Church on Saturday, April 10 at 4.30 pm with Holy Mass, stage function and entertainment programme. Fr Robert D'Souza, principal of Lourdes Central School, Bejai Mangaluru concelebrated the Holy Mass as the chief celebrant along with Fr Victor Machado, parish priest, Fr Lawrence Cutinha, assistant parish priest and Deacon Ivan Dsouza.
In his homily, Fr Robert Dsouza reflected on the Gospel of the day and highlighted the significance of Catechism in the life of a Christian. The liturgy of the Holy Mass and the choir was animated by the students of the Catechism classes.
The stage function commenced at 6.00 pm in Frad Saib Hall. Fr Victor Machado presided over the function. Fr Robert D'Souza was the chief guest. Fr Victor Machado presided over the function Other dignitaries on the dais included Fr Lawrence Cutinha, Fr Shaun Rodrigues, deacon Ivan D'Souza and Sr Ida Janet superior of the Convent, Michael D'Souza vice-president, Parish Pastoral Council and Prathibha D’Costa, coordinator of Catechism.
The program began with the prayer song by the children’s choir and a welcome address by Fr Lawrence Cutinha. The report of the Catechism classes and activities was presented by Prathibha D'Souza. The student Fiona D'Souza of X ‘A’ shared her experience and on behalf of the teacher, Vinisha shared the experience.
Fr Robert D'Souza, the chief guest in his address complimented the students of the Catechism classes for their excellent animation of liturgy and choir and also highlighted the importance of Catechism in enriching the spiritual and community life of Christians. The first three top scorers from each class from 1 to 10 in the Catechism examination were awarded the prizes. Prizes were also given for attendance, project workbook and album. Teachers took responsibility for coordinating the various aspects of Catechism like exam attendance, notebook, project album etc. Fr Victor Machado congratulated the children, teachers and coordinators for organising the various Catechism classes and activities during the pandemic and helping the students to strengthen their faith. The students from different classes gave a wonderful well appreciated cultural program. The program included dance, song, skit and mime from different classes. The teachers were recognised for their voluntary service to teach Catechism. The vote of thanks was proposed by Flavia. Jacintha Lobo coordinated the prize distribution. The parents and parishioners attended the program in large numbers and appreciated the well-coordinated program.
