Mumbai, Jul 22: An 8x10 foot of road caved-in near old passport office in Worli in central Mumbai, on Wednesday, July 21.
According to civic officials, the road's 8x10 foot portion caved in at 9.30 am near old passport office in Worli. A mini bus got trapped in the caved-in pit and was removed with the help of traffic department's towing vehicle.
The repair work is on, the officials said.
"The restoration work is on and it will take two days to repair the road. We intend to lay concrete-cement road after monsoon, that would cost Rs 15 Lakh," Additional Municipal Commissioner Aseem Gupta said.
In the meantime, the BMC has warned that there will be no respite from such disasters until the storm water drains project is complete.
The project involves replacement of the century-old drainage system in the city. However, until now, the project is only 60% complete.
A spate of cave-ins in the city over the years has highlighted the need for better monitoring of underground utilities and construction activity that affects soil formations under roads and footpaths.
