Mangalore, Jul 22: It has been decided to avail of the services of Suratkal-based National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) for repairing the spot of the national highway (NH) near Padil Kodakkal, which experienced landslide on Tuesday June 20. This decision was taken after district deputy commissioner (DC), V Ponnuraj, and MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, visited the spot on Wednesday July 21, and assessed the damage to the road as well as the risks involved. NH 48 being one of the lifelines of the district, any traffic disturbance on this road can give rise to chaotic situation. Considering the seriousness of the issue, the above decision was taken.
The DC said that the administration will consider ordering traffic diversion, if it is felt that the stretch of NH 48 minor bridge, both sides of which have suffered damage, might not be able to bear the burden of the traffic until the repair works are concluded.
At present, the National Highway Authority of India has been undertaking temporary repair works. Warning signs have been displayed to warn the road users about the road damage.
