Bangalore, Jul 21 : A lull has set in Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde’s fight against corruption with Upalokayukta S B Majage suffering a massive heart attack on Tuesday within hours of assuming office.
Justice Majage was brought to the casualty ward of Mallya Hospital at 6:47 pm in a semi-conscious state with low blood pressure. After coming to hospital, he suffered a severe heart attack.
He was immediately shifted to the Cardiac Care Unit, where he was put on ventilator.
Justice Majage was then taken for emergency procedure to the Cath lab, hospital president Commodore Indru Wadhwani said.
He then underwent primary angioplasty. “His condition is stable. There were no risk factors,” said cardiologist Dr V K Srinivas, who is treating Justice Majage. This is the first time Majage, who is in his early 60s, has had a cardiac arrest.
Following the drama over the Loyayukta’s resignation and its withdrawal, the government had been forced to speed up the process of appointment of the Upalokayukta. One of Justice Hegde’s reasons for resigning as the Lokayukta was regarding filling the post, which was vacant for the last seven months.
His prime demand while withdrawing his resignation after pressures from top BJP leaders was to fill the post as quickly as possible. Following this, he was told by the State Government that the Upalokayukta’s appointment would come within a week.
Justice Majage’s appointment was also marred by controvesy with legal experts terming it unconstitutional.
