Mangalore Jul 19: The members of Akhila Bharata Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a protest opposing terrorism and naxalism ideologies growing among students at M G Road here on Monday July 19.
The students from different colleges supported the protest of ABVP. The protestors alleged that the students involved with organizations such as Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KFD) and Popular Front of India (PFI) are being exposed to communal ideologies, which is not a positive trend.
Addressing the protestors, ABVP district convenor B Purushottam Sullia said that in the recent times, incidents such as chopping off the hands of lecturer in Kerala for preparing question paper with objectionable reference to the Prophet by PFI and beating up of a student until his eyesight was about to be damaged, shows the danger of youth’s affiliations with such organizations. He dared the fanatics to chop off the hand of M F Hussain for painting Bharatmata nude.
ABVP district secretary B Harsha said that curb on such organizations is essential because of instances such as killing of ABVP member and second year bachelor’s degree student Unnikrishnan by SFI activists.
ABVP assistant secretary Vinay said that the police should be equipped with modern weapons to fight these organizations, alleging that the organizations already possess AK – 47 and technically advanced bombs. Further, they are helped by funding from international terror organizations, who are looking into setting up a base in Kerala. It is also disturbing that naxalism is being strengthened as a movement in neighbouring states such as Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, he added.
ABVP rajya karyakarana samiti member Dasharat was present.
