Mangalore, Jul 19: Deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, V Ponnuraj, has requested the families of the air crash victims who have not yet applied for the compensation declared by the state government, to do so before August 4.
He said in a release that in normal course, the divisional commissioner, Mysore, is alone empowered to approve documents like death certificates, post mortem reports and other such documents required for releasing the compensation amounting to two lac rupees per victim. Towards 108 victims from the state who lost their lives, a sum of 2.16 crore has been released, and Rs 62 lac has already been disbursed to families of 31 victims, he added.
For a temporary period, for the convenience of the claimants, the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district has been authorized to approve the above documents. This power has been vested with him only till August 4. Hence, he has requested the families of the victims to claim their compensation before the deadline.
