Bantwal, Jul 16: Palimar JanardanPai (78), a successful businessman, poet, social and religious leader, breathed his last due to cardiac arrest, on Thursday July 15. His end came when he was having lunch at his son's house in Mangalore, where he suddenly collapsed.
He is survived by wife, two sons, and two daughters.
Pai began by opening a book shop in Vittal, and later forayed into wholesale and retail trade of provisions. He also set up a rice and oil mill in Vittal, besides a cashew factory, where over 350 women are employed.
His passion for penning poetry was well known. He had written thousands of limericks and his articles had been published in various publications and souvenirs. He had also brought out a book called ‘Pradeepa’, a collection of Subhashitas and hymns. He was the treasurer of Vital Lord Panchalingeshwara Temple, honorary president of government primary school betterment committee since the last four decades, and had played a major role in building Lord Srirama Temple in Vittal.
In his honour, the business establishments in Vittal downed shutters on Thursday evening. Many dignitaries visited his home to pay their last respects.
