Ponda, Mar 16: A Kerala native residing at Marcel, was arrested by Ponda police on Monday evening for the alleged kidnapping of an 11-year-old girl.

The 61-year-old accused lured the girl by offering her a mobile phone to play with and kidnapped her from her house at Marcel, and later kept her with a fish vendor woman at Collem in Dharbandora taluka, said Ponda DSP.

The police were successful in rescuing the girl and a case of kidnapping and child abuse has been registered at the Ponda police station against the accused Anthony da Cruz.

“The accused brought her to Ponda by a rickshaw and moved to Collem by a passenger bus. He was in the process of taking her to Mumbai this weekend,” the police said.
