Udupi, Mar 12: A owner of a reputed electronic shop and his staff reportedly attacked a civic worker near Udupi City Bus Stand on Friday, March 12.
It is said that the scuffle broke out for a silly reason over the segregation of waste.
The victim has been identified as the driver of the waste transportation vehicle Sanju Madar. It is also said that the accused threatened the victim. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media. City Municipal Council health officer Karunakar had rushed to the spot when he came to know of the issue. As per reports, in the presence of the officer, the accused came forward to attack the victim.
The victim Sanju had allegedly questioned the electronic shop owner for not segregating dry and wet waste, following which he was attacked. The accused also attacked another person who was sitting in the vehicle.
The issue was also raised by Twitteratis following which former minister Pramod Madhwaraj assured of bringing the civic worker to justice. "I spoke to SP Udupi to take immediate action against the culprits as there are rumours that the case is being hushed up. Proper protection should be given to pourakarmikas who do everything possible to keep our cities clean," he responded to a user on Twitter.
The Udupi police have arrested two accused identified as Ismail (55) from Nejar and Suhail (28) from Hoode.
