Bantwal Jul 13: President of World Konkani Centre, Basti Vaman Shenoy released a handbook for Konkani parents ‘Why Konkani in School?’ at SV S. English School, Vidyagiri here, recently.
The Handbook was released at an “Interaction Meet” organized in the school to clear the apprehensions of parents of std VI students while opting for Konkani as third language in the school.
Speaking on the occasion, Basti Vaman Shenoy said “The Questions raised by Konkani Parents while opting for Konkani as third language have been compiled in the handbook and answered by language experts and educationists. The answers should clear any apprehensions in the minds of the parents and they should come forward to utilize the facility the state government has provided after a long struggle by Konkani leaders.”
Secretary of Karnataka Konkani Linguistic Minority Educational Institutions Association Dr K Mohan Pai said “Learning mother tongue as third language in school besides English and Kannada as the major languages will surely not harm the future economic interest of the child. Rather child can learn other languages much faster and better once he learns the structure of his mother tongue.
Correspondent of the school Bhamy Vittaladas Shenoy and educationist Dr B Devadas Pai were present. School headmaster Somanath welcomed the gathering. Konkani teacher Lidwyn Veena Crasta compered the function.
