Kasargod, Jul 8: During the interrogation, the policemen have reportedly learnt that the decree to chop off the palm of lecturer, T J Joseph, accused of preparing a question paper with insulting remarks about the prophet, had been issued by Darul Khada (God’s Court) being run on the model of Taliban courts.
Eight men, allegedly belonging to Popular Front of India, had attacked Joseph on Sunday last, and inflicted injuries on him besides cutting off his palm. The above information was extracted by the policemen from Ashraf, an activist of Popular Front, and the prime accused in the case. Ashraf is said to have told the policemen that an Islamic court that is functioning under Popular Front of India had passed the said decree. A branch of Darul Khada is functional in Irattupeta in Kottayam district, near Muvattupuzha, where the said attack took place. The arrested men have also revealed that Popular Front of India has been getting more and more active even in the family disputes in the state.
Fifty two year-old Joseph’s amputated palm had been rejoined by the doctors through a surgery. He is recovering in the hospital.
The state policemen have kept Central Bureau of Investigation apprised of these developments, sources said.
