Mangalore, Jul 6: Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) held their 63rd annual generalbody meeting (AGM) and the 13th cup award ceremony at Rosario Church Hall on Sunday July 4.
The programmes were inaugurated by Fr Stany Goveas, parish priest of the Rosario Cathedral by lighting the lamp. In his message bishop enlightened the mission of Christian youth leaders in the church and society. The leadership through service is the need of the hour, he said.
He called upon the youth to become effective leaders of the society.
Director Fr Anil D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Leo Pereira, president, ICYM proposed the vote of thanks. ICYM lady animator Sr Michelle B S and Reena D’Souza, secretary were present. The programme was compered Reshma from Milagres.
After the inauguration the (AGM) was held where a lot of topics concerned to the youth ministry were discussed. Then the elections were held to elect the office-bearers for the year 2010-2011.
Vincent Rodrigues, Madanthyar was elected as president, Gilpin Pinto, Ujire vice-president, Anisha D’Souza, Ammembal elected lady vice-president, Lawrence D’Souza, Narampady was elected secretary, Aeren D S Lobo, Milagres elected joint-secretary, Mishal Fernandes,Vittal as treasurer, Joseph Fernandes, Shirtady as auditor, Steven Pinto, Permude as regional representative and Reshma Castelino, Mulky and Leo Pereira, Arva, former president as members.
The 13th cup award ceremony was inaugurated by Fr Henry Sequeira the chancellor of Mangalore Diocese. In his message, he stressed on the role and responsibility of every youth in the family, church and the society.
Melwyn D’Cunha, the Chairman of MCC Bank, Mangalore was the chief guest of the award ceremony. He honoured the married youth who rendered their services as office-bearers in ICYM. During his address he pointed out that there are plenty of opportunities for the youth to establish themselves in their country and called upon the youth to grab those opportunities and prove their leadership.
Robin, the State ICYM president from the Diocese of Beltangady was the guest of honour.
Recognizing the services and the activities conducted by the local ICYM units, 10 units were honoured with “CUP AWARD” - Madantyar, Kulshekar, Moodbidri town, Pakshikere, Kinnigoli, Kumbla, Panir, Kelarai, Gurpur and Neermarga.
Along with the director and lady animator all the diocesan executive members were present on the dias. Leo Pereira, the president of ICYM welcomed and Reshma proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Prashanth D’Souza, Arva,volunteer, the National ICYM office, Delhi.
