Panaji: Life in Goa Paralysed

Panaji, July 5 (IANS):
Markets were shut, schools were empty and roads were deserted across Goa Monday as the opposition parties' all India shutdown against the hike in fuel came into effect.

District administration officials said incidents of stone pelting were reported at several places. A couple of buses belonging to the government run Kadamba Transport Corporation were stoned by unknown individuals.

The call for the shutdown has been given by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance and the Left parties.

The bandh in Goa was all the more effective today because a local bus owners association also took their buses off the roads demanding a hike in bus fares.
