Mangaluru, Feb 27: The old proposal of transforming isles into tourist destinations is being given a fresh consideration now. The process of conducting a survey and drafting of a plan have been initiated. A team that included Mangaluru south MLA Vedavyasa Kamath, Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra K V and other officials visited the isles and conducted inspection. The officials, who have been instructed to prepare a work plan, are engaged in the work.
There are beautiful isles inside Rivers Netravati and Phalguni where tourism has good potential. There are six isles including near Kadekar, old port, Tannirbhavi beach and Kudla Kudru.
Maritime Board, of which deputy commissioners of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are members, has a good opportunity to develop the seashore. These opportunities can well be utilised. The proposal to build a ring road is under consideration, and if development of isles also is undertaken, tourism potential of the city can be better exploited and economic development will be possible. Kerala already has several isles that have developed into much sought after tourist destinations.
The proposal to develop the isles is old, and there was also a proposal to provide boats to travel to these isles. MLA Vedavyasa Kamath, said that isles have been inspected and officials have been asked to draw a detailed project report on the issue.
