Mangaluru, Feb 27: The prestigious Vishwa Konkani Awards 2020 were conferred on five eminent achievers of various fields in a grand ceremony held at World Konkani Centre, Shaktinagar here on Saturday February 27.

Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Sahitya Puraskar was awarded to K M Sukhatankar for his Dhumkyar Dhumke (satire). Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Poetry Award was conferred on Shailendra Mehta for his Sisyphus Tengsher (Poetry).

Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on Dr Shivaram Kamath for his lifetime contributions to Konkani language movement.

Basti Vaman Shenoy Vishwa Konkani Seva Puraskar was awarded to Meera Shenoy for her exemplary service in empowerment of persons with disabilities and Dr Y Umanath Shenoy for his exemplary service in the field of Indian epigraphy and history.

Eminent Konkani poet and president of Goa Konkani Academy Arun Sakhardande presented the awards to the achievers.

Chairman of Manipal Global Education, Bengaluru, T V Mohandas Pai also spoke on the occasion through Zoom meet.

President of Vishwa Konkani Kendra Basti Vaman Shenoy welcomed the gathering. Smitha Shenoy compered the programme.

Treasurer B R Bhat and general secretary G Nandagopal Shenoy, vice president Vishwa Konkani Kendra Gilbert D’Souza and others were present.
