Udupi, Feb 25: The District Citizens Committee Trust, here, staged a protest against the price hike on fuel, gas cylinders, food, daily commodities and essential items by carrying a mock corpse on a bamboo stretcher. The protest was held at Martyrs’ ground, Ajjarkad, here, on Thursday February 25.
Convener of the committee, Nithyananda Olakadu speaking at the protest, said, "Through this protest, we are drawing the attention of the Central and State government regarding regulating price hike on essential items. We are completing a year of the lockdown. Poor people are facing a severe financial crisis due to unemployment. Guest lecturers are also facing dark days. We do not want to harm society. We are peace lovers and believe in living respectful lives. Hence, the only demand is to reduce the prices on essential items."
Members of the guest lecturers' welfare committee participated in the protest.
Women guest lecturers carried out a mock funeral by carting a dummy on a stretcher. A gas cylinder was mounted onto a wheeled cart. The march began from Jodukatte to Ajjarkad Martyrs’ Memorial ground to mark the protest.
Udupi District Citizens Committee Trust members Ganeshraj Saralebettu, Tharanath Mestha, and Manjappa Goni, state general secretary of Guest lecturers welfare committee, Shahida Kota, district president of the welfare committee, Santhosh, general secretary Satyaprabha, Triveni, Satyaprabha, Thrupty, Rafik, Balagangadhar Rao participated in the protest.
