Mangaluru, Feb 20: A car driver who had to pay a heavy price after crossing Talapady toll gate, cursed himself after finding that the charges he had to pay were unreasonable and exorbitant.
Sandesh, resident of Uppala Pachchambala was heading home at 11 am on Friday February 19. As he did not have FASTag sticker in his vehicle, he was forced to pay Rs 80, which is double the normal fee. Sandesh then bought a tag at the FASTag counter located near the tollgate. The staff told him that the FASTag would become operational after two hours.
He passed the same gate at about 2 pm and was approached by the toll gate staff seeking payment of fee. He told them that he had already paid double the charges and showed them the receipt. But it so transpired that the toll staff had entered wrong registration number of his vehicle in the receipt. Sandesh then paid Rs 80 again for a mistake for which he was not responsible.
He returned to Mangaluru and found that Rs 40 had been debited from the toll gate balance. Sandesh was made to cough up Rs 200 as toll charges for visiting home and returning. He said he will take up the matter with higher authorities.
