Madikeri, Feb 19: Several parts of Kodagu witnessed hailstones along with rains on Friday, February 19.
The shift in weather also brought strong winds impacting the standing crops, locals were left astonished at the number of hailstones that spread across different parts of the district.
Hailstones were found on roads, coffee estates, the roof of the houses, areca nut and coconut plantations at Mullur, Nidtha, Ankanahalli, Gudugalale etc.
Hail is a form of precipitation or water in the atmosphere. This weather phenomenon is formed when drops of water freeze together in the cold upper regions of thunderstorm clouds. The chunks of ice so formed are referred to as hailstones. Most hailstones measure between 5 millimetres and 15 centimetres in diameter and can be round or jagged.
