Bengaluru, Feb 18: State health department officials stated on Wednesday, February 17 that people aged above 50 and those suffering from chronic ailments will be vaccinated for coronavirus beginning from March. This was stated by the officials at a workshop organized for the journalists relating to the corona vaccine.
"We have been relying on voters list to follow age-related yardsticks. We will be utilising survey reports prepared by the health department about people aged less than 50 and suffering from chronic diseases. We are waiting for central government guidelines," they revealed. They said they are not clear what long term ailments will be listed by the central government in its guidelines.
Managing director of National Health Mission, Dr Arundhathi Chandrashekhar, said that in any case, there will not be any need for a fresh survey.
For corona warriors, the February 20 deadline was given for vaccination. She said that the state government had collected details of those suffering from cancer and those who got organs transplant. Dr Trilok Chandra said that on account of false information spread through social media, the vaccine has got less response.
The health department said that out of the vaccinated people, 400 have displayed minor side effects and 15 major side effects. People are not following corona rules as the number of infected is coming down. But on account of people coming in from Kerala and Maharashtra, the infections are increasing, they pointed out.
