Bengaluru, Feb 16: Former Governor of Bihar and Jharkhand, Justice M Rama Jois passed away at the age of 88 in Bengaluru at 7:30 am after a prolonged illness on Tuesday.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
He was born at Mandagadde in Shivamogga district on July 27, 1932. He was suffering from age-related problems and died of cardiac arrest.
Chief minister B S Yediyurappa has mourned the death of former Karnataka High Court judge Justice M Rama Jois in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
Justice Rama Jois had also served as the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Justice Rama Jois, who hailed from Shivamogga district, had served as a Governor of Bihar and Jharkhand. He was also a Rajya Sabha member.
The chief minister has in his condolence message paid glowing tributes to Justice Rama Jois and described him as a legal luminary whose thoughts were reflected well in his books on law and constitution.
Yediyurappa recalled the imprisonment of Justice Rama Jois during the emergency period. "In his death, we have lost a great thinker,’’ the chief minister said.
Primary and secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar and mining and geology minister Murugesh M Nirani have also expressed a deep sense of grief at the death of Justice Rama Jois and described his demise as an irreparable loss to the country.
