Bengaluru: ‘Act of supporting farmers cannot be termed as sedition’ - Former CM Siddaramaiah

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Feb 15: Widespread criticism is being heard nationwide against the arrest of environmental activist Disha Ravi, who was arrested by Delhi police in connection with ‘Toolkit’ case.

Former chief minister (CM) and leader of opposition Siddaramaiah said that he vehemently condemns the arrest of Disha Ravi, which he said is politically motivated.

Siddaramaiah tweeted in this respect and said, "The arrest of Disha Ravi, a climate activist, has exposed the cracks in the Indian democracy under @narendramodi. How can the act of supporting farmers be charged under sedition? I strongly condemn this politically motivated act by Delhi police."

It may be recalled, Disha Ravi, was arrested by the Delhi police's cybercrime cell. The police personnel said that she is an editor of the 'Toolkit' Google Doc and a key conspirator in the document's formulation and dissemination and she started the WhatsApp group and collaborated to draft the document. She worked closely to draft the document, the Delhi police said after Disha was taken into custody for five days.

In the best interests of Congress, its better their leaders stay away and keep their traps shut. If not its just digging the grave deeper. As more are more stuff is unearthed during the investigations, the things are getting murkier. Some jacob lady has already started singing like a cannary. Hope these guys dont lose face.

If you are neutral or are discouraging the opposition then you are supporting the oppressor who in this case is the fascist BJP regime. It is one's constitutional right to protest or organize one, it could be through Tool Kit or Whatsapp. How do you think BJP organized those violent protests prior to 2014?

I don't support any political party. Miss. Disha Ravi is a climate activist and outspoken personality. She is supporting to farmers of our country to back their rights. In democracy everyone has the rights to express their views which I strongly believe.

Everyone is absolutely free to speak openly and support farmers. Problem is during this, one cannot collude with pro-khalistani organization or try to unfairly provide information to influential foreigners to raise their voice against India on a topic they don't understand. To all of you who are against these bills I want to ask. Are you okay if government puts a limit to your income and won't allow you to sell your produce to customers who are willing to pay more. All of you are making money by selling or working for private sectors or to consumers. But you want farmers to sell only at APMC to middle men. Don't they have the right to sell their produce to whom they want? This great Greta Thunberg who is dividing us, did you all try to find out how is farm sector organized in her own country? She is from Sweden. In 1991 there was farm reforms in Sweden which eliminated all govt subsidies and intervention and opened the market to consumers directly. And she is stopping us from progress.

She was directly involved in the toolkit editing let the crime branch do their investigation. Congress should be careful issuing statements. Tomorrow if there's something big behind this girl congress will be questioned. Already the party is in a tough time don't make it tougher

There is nothing wrong with organizing a protest on Tool kit, as it is democratically and constitutionally our right to peacefully protest. BJP themselves protested propr to 2014 to get into power. I support our farmers and their right to protest against the wrong anti-people policies of Modi / BJP.

Where is our country heading? Anyone questioning the government is labelled as anti national and anyone supporting the farmers is also anti national. Democracy is being strangled to death. Our rights to speak and protest are being snatched away. I pity the people of this country. Are we so deaf and dumb? Can't we see all that is going on in front of our eyes? Suffering injustice is as bad as committing injustice.
