IMA announces non-cooperation, asks surgeons not to train Ayush practitioners

New Delhi, Feb 14 (IANS): Intensifying their protest against the Centre's order to train post-graduate practitioners in specified streams of ayurveda in general surgical procedures, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for a non-cooperation movement, asking the surgeons and anesthesiologists to not cooperate in training the Ayush doctors.

The apex association of modern medicine practitioners also said that it will submit a list to the Union government of 1,000 modern medicine doctors to willing to serve in any remote areas of the country. "This is done to counter the false claim of lack of doctors which is cited as a reason to promote mixopathy," IMA President Dr J A Jayalal said.

The IMA had started a pan-India relay hunger strike from February 1 which concluded on Sunday. "It was our first step towards 'Save Healthcare India Movement' which was initiated this month. We are going to intensify it further with a next stage of non-cooperation," Dr Jayalal added.

The whole exercise by the IMA is to push for immediate withdrawal of the Centre's order which, the association claims, is impractical, unscientific and promotes "mixopathy" of different streams of medicine.

Last year, the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) amended the Indian Medicine Central Council (Post Graduate Ayurveda Education) Regulations, 2016, to allow PG students of ayurveda to perform a variety of general surgery including orthopaedic, ophthalmology, ENT and dental through notifying an amendment in a gazette notification issued in November.

The latest amendment allows PG ayurveda students to receive formal training for such procedures. The training modules for surgical procedures will be added to the curriculum of ayurvedic studies.

This move has drawn a lot of criticism from the doctors of modern medicine which also result in a series of protests the country witnessed last December, called by the IMA.

"We have categorically expressed our righteous say against this extremely serious move to allow Aayush postgraduates to perform 58 surgeries. The government policy of mixopathy of all systems is unethical in which the mutually unrelated in principles & mode of operandi are integrated unscientifically together as a one system. IMA opposes strongly the proposal to make single doctor practicing all systems together. The association has raised valid & simple questions arising out of this Mixopathy notification," the IMA stated.

There are enough Home remedies to treat lots of small ailments . Even certain sprains and minor fractures are treated from home and they are indirect reference to traditional medicine. Doctors having knowledge of both such as modern medicine in case is acute Health problem and advising traditional hone remedies must be a welcome move. The over use of modern medicines have given birth to lots of drug resistance mutant viruses. I’d medical companies don’t stop an ailement as an business option there may not be enough molecules left to control diseases . The coming generation who are made by the parents who have over abused themselves with modern diseases may have to bear the burnt. Everyone know the traditional home remedies is working. Are we not managing our normal joint pain with Ayurvedic oil ? Are we doing using Ayurvedic Kashayams to take cate or certain stomach ailments or cold ? There are no proper medicine for constipation Other than home remedy. Then why this mind block ? Let it be an option ans works best to a patient must be practiced . Practitioners of Ayush have given beautiful service during Pandemic which must not be missed . The availability of lakhs of Ayurvedic practitioners have helped India in fight against COVID. It was like additional paramilitary force and it worked very well to India. So, plain hate towards a party which is governing the nation must not make in blind to think about the future .

Agreed type of treatment/medicine is different in both stream of medicine. However, if a post graduate student is trained as surgeon irrespective of the stream he comes from, what is the harm? Why allopathy doctors/IMA feel threatned? Govt should open more medical colleges and attach it to district hospital. So deserved candidates can get an affordable medical seat.

Yeah stop these life-threatening mixopathy from senseless ideas of the present govt. Adverse Drug Reactions kill more people in hospitals despite all precautions and years of training as such again letting in amateurs to perform will cause more fatalities than normal.
