Chitradurga, Feb 13: Thipperudra Swamiji of Sharanara Sujnana Mantapa, upset that he was not appointed head of Yogavana Betta Peetha, on Saturday February 13 attempted suicide in the presence of minister of social welfare B Sriramulu.
The Swamiji tried to consume poison at the district BJP office when he came to visit the minister. But the minister intervened and stopped him. Police personnel immediately admitted him to district hospital. He is said to be out of danger.
Basavakumar Swamiji was appointed as head of Yogavana Betta after the death of Kapardi Siddalinga Swamiji. Thipperudra Swamiji had opposed Basavakumar Swamiji's appointment.
A letter in the form of a death note was found with Thipperudra Swamiji.
"I have experienced injustice from head of Yogavana Betta Peetha and Ganiga Gurupeeta Basavakumar Swamiji, former MLA S K Basavarajan and a woman named Pavitra. They are responsible for my death. Provide justice by protecting those who worked for Yogavana Betta," stated the Swamiji in the letter.
"I was campaigning for the religion and doing social work at Yogavana Betta. There was a conspiracy to throw me out. They have gone back on their promise and cheated me without paying compensation. They have thrown me to the street and destroyed the lives of those who were with me," he alleged.
"They have grabbed government land and are living a luxurious life. My campaign was not effective in between money and power. Therefore, I decided to end my life. S K Basavaraj has betrayed my trust. The government should punish the guilty. Justice should be provided to Poornananda Swamiji, Rudrappa and Kamalamma who worked for the Betta," he stated.
Yogavana Betta Maths are in Aldur in Chikkamagaluru, Kunigal in Tumakuru, Kanakapura in Ramnagar and in Chitradurga. Thipperudra Swamiji was overseeing the affairs at Yogavana Betta in Kunigal until Basavakumar Swamiji was appointed as its head.
