Mangaluru, Feb 11: "It is really appreciable that service-oriented organizations like Lions Clubs are taking care of differently-abled children," said Lion Dr Shantaram Shetty.
Dr Shetty addressed a gathering after inaugurating the new building Lions Ashoka Seva Bhavan, constructed by Lions Club Ashokanagar in the city for the treatment of differently-able children.
Dr Shetty further said, "In our country on an average, one out of every 100 people has some sort of physical deficiency. By offering this kind of service, Lions Club of Ashoknagar will instill confidence in the life of differently-abled children."
It is customary for the Lions Club governor to visit Lions Club Ashokanagar on January 26 every year. Accordingly, this year also, governors of Lion district 317, Ln Geet Prakash and Dr Gayatri G Prakash visited the club and inspected the activities of the club. They also gave suitable suggestions and appreciated the activities of the club.
Speaking on the occasion, Ln Geet Prakash said, "Lions Club Ashoknagara, which has a rich history of 40 years, has carved a niche for itself in society through its social service works. It is really appreciable on the part of the club to have built Lions Ashoka Seva Bhavana at a cost of Rs 90 lac and donating the same to social service for the development of differently-abled children.
The chief guest of the occasion and MLA of Mangaluru south legislative constituency, Vedavyas Kamath said, "I am so impressed by the activities of Lions Club of Ashoknagar, that I, myself have become a member of this club and encouraging the good works done by the club." He also promised to help the club as much as possible for the service activities of the club under the grant given to him by the government.
Local corporator, Shakeela Kava inaugurated the Republic Day programme which was organized as part of the inauguration ceremony of the new building hoisted the National Flag. Chief guests on the occasion, first governor of Lion district 317 D Ln Vasanth Kumar Shetty and second governor Ln Sanjith Shetty extended their good wishes.
Purushotham Kottary, owner of Sri Navadurga Constructions, who built the new building and engineers Babu Narayan and Satyaranjan were felicitated on the occasion.
Founder member of Lions Club Ashokanagara and president of A J Shetty group of companies, A J Shetty felicitated MLA Vedavyas Kamath and Dr Shantaram Shetty.
The programme was presided over by Naveen Shetty K, president of Lions Club Charitable Trust and building committee. Secretary Vasanth Shetty, joint secretary Narayana, treasurer Prashanth Shetty, president of Ashokanagara Lions Club Prajwala Shetty, secretary Anusha P Shetty and Kusuma Udaya Rao were present.
Dr Vasanth Kumar and Prashant B Shetty compered the programme. Ln Manju and Niharika offered prayers. Anusha Shetty rendered the vote of thanks.
