Kaup, Feb 9: A delegation of Kaup Autorickshaw Drivers and Owners Association has called for the suspension of a railway police staff who allegedly assaulted a rickshaw driver without reason.
The rickshaw driver identified as Shahdil (34) had arrived at the Indrali railway station on February 8 at 10.30 pm looking for passengers. While there, Shahdil noticed a mentally challenged person who was brandishing a knife, it is said that he tried to prevent the man from creating panic. Moments later, railway police on the scene, allegedly hit Shahdil with a lathi for no reason, informed the association.
The delegation visited police inspector, Rajashekar at Manipal police station. The railway police inspector, Santhosh Gaunkar who arrived there later held discussions with the delegation. The delegation urged the railway police inspector to suspend the police staff.
Association president Umar Kaup, joint secretary, Ramachandra, secretary Razaq K M and others were present.
