Belagavi, Feb 9: Even as the farmers have been fighting relentlessly against the three controversial farm laws passed by the centre in Delhi for the last 73 days, Bollywood actress, Kangana Ranaut has been found to be making tweets containing disputable remarks about the said agitation.
An advocate from the city, taking umbrage at the habit of the actress, has filed a complaint against Kangana Ranaut. He has said that Kangana has been showcasing her arrogance and stubbornness through her tweets and therefore has demanded to ban her Twitter account.
The farmers have been fighting, duly seeking to annul the three farm laws of the central government. Various farmer organization from across the country have expressed solidarity with the farmers who are fighting. However, Bollywood actress, Kangana Ranaut, has made controversial tweets about the farmers. She has termed the farmers as terrorists and Khalistanis, besides claiming that the struggle has the blessings of Pakistan and China. Her tweets have received many criticisms from all over the country.
On the base of this dispute, Harshvardhan Patil, a city-based advocate, has filed a complaint in Tilakwadi police station. The police, who have received the complaint, has not yet registered first information report (FIR) against the celebrated actress.
Advocate Harshvardhan Patil, addressing a press meet here, urged the Tilakwadi police to register FIR under various sections of the Indian Penal Code failing which he said he would approach the court. He said that there is freedom of speech in the country but it should not be misused. He, therefore, insisted that Kangana should be banned from using Twitter.
Several international celebrities had recently tweeted, supporting the agitation of the farmers. Many actors and sportspersons from the country had responded by telling them that the people of the country will solve their own internal problems and that the international celebrities are not welcome to poke their noses here. But the tweet by Kangana, it is said, rubbed many in the wrong way. It may be noted that case has already been filed against the actress in Tumakuru, taking exception to at her remarks which reportedly were derogatory and outright insulting.
Meanwhile, a petition is also being circulated on social media platforms to ban the actress's Twitter account for spreading hatred and calling farmers 'terrorists'.
The petition against Kangana reads that her recent tweets were harming farmers, who were protesting peacefully for their rights and were only asking for revoking the Agri laws passed by the central government.
So far, 1,47,566 people have already signed the petition.
While Twitter blocked the accounts for posting provocative hashtags, including #ModiPlanningFarmerGenocide, farmers said, “Kangana was clearly talking about ethnic cleansing in short genocide. She is trying to recreate the 1984 Sikh genocide and is promoting hatred, harm and violence against farmers.”
